This is a very special tour as many of you came together for the first time on a Spirit of Remembrance tour for the Centenary of The Battle of Vimy Ridge.  We are so very pleased to welcome you back and for new guests to join.

DAY 1: Friday 31 May 2019
Fly into London from Canada and make your own way to your hotel.

DAY 2: Saturday 01 June 2019
Breakfast at leisure in your hotel.

Your guide, Richard Peters, will join you in the foyer and guide you to the following locations via local transport, (tubes and buses).

DAY 3: Sunday 02 June 2019
Breakfast at leisure in your hotel.
Venturing out again on public transport from your hotel, we will visit:

Imperial War Museum
National Army Museum

We will return to the hotel where we will be collected by our private executive coach for the drive south to a very historic inn just north of Newhaven, Sussex.

After time to freshen up, we will head to the atmospheric hotel restaurant for dinner.

DAY 4: Monday 03 June 2019
Breakfast will be early today as we must depart the hotel by 0730.
The DFDS ferry will depart at 0900 from Newhaven, arriving in Dieppe at 1400.
Lunch will be own cost on the ferry.

Richard, your guide, will talk you through the events surrounding the Raid on Dieppe outlining the causes and effects of the ill-fated Dieppe raid in 1942 where the Royal Regiment of Canada was annihilated, with just 60 men out of 543 men that landed extracted from the beach. 

Check into your hotel before driving to Pourville to visit:
Pourville - Green Beach – Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa & The South Saskatchewan Regiment
* The Esplanade - White Beach & Red Beach – Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, Essex Scottish, Fusiliers Mont-Royal, Calgary Regiment and Royal Marine 'A' Commandos.

DAY 5: Tuesday 04 June 2019
Following breakfast and check out, the coach departs for more touring in the Dieppe area, including the following: We continue south through Normandy to Caen where we will check into our apartment / hotel, home for the next 8 nights.

DAY 6: Wednesday 05 June 2019
D-Day Festival will already be in full swing with many events taking place throughout Normandy.
We do believe that one event, taking place today, “Daks over Normandy” who plan to have  an entire squadron of Douglas DC-3/C-47 Dakotas in attendance for what will without a doubt be a once in our lifetime and unequalled event. 

We suggest that the day is left free of touring so that you can wander and soak up the commemorations.

DAY 7: Thursday 06 June 2019                    75TH Anniversary of D-Day
Official ceremony time and details yet to be released by VAC
Floral tributes will be laid at each beach at the exact time of the landing.
0800       Commemorative ceremony at Maison des Canadiens, Bernières-sur-Mer (repeated at 2100 (9pm))
0930       Ceremony at the monument of 228 route de Bény, Bernières-sur-Mer
1130       Ceremony at the Canadian Monument, rue Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, Bernières-sur-Mer

Numerous other events taking place throughout Normandy – full list being compiled.
NB: As with all major Anniversaries there will be significant road closures, hence final details of the day are subject to change.

DAY 8: Friday 07 June 2019         

Breakfast in the hotel.
Further parachute drops and commemorative overflights will be taking place plus a parade of historic vehicles in and around Arromanches.
Depending upon your interests and what is actually possible, Richard will continue his original theme of “The eastern flank – Pegasus Bridge, Merville Battery, Canadian Paras actions”. Accommodation:             The Appart’City Caen

DAY 9: Saturday 08 June 2019
Breakfast in the hotel.
1100       Commemoration ceremony at Ranville Military Cemetery in honour of the Commonwealth soldiers who fell during the Battle of Normandy. Participation of the sponsors of the “Poppies du Commonwealth” program, which proposes the sponsorship of war graves in Normandy. (Subject to your interest and availability).
Today’s tour theme is: “The western beaches”, so we intend to visit the following:

DAY 10: Sunday 09 June 2019

The roads should have returned to “normal” and the American commemorations scaling down.  We should therefore be able to visit the following locations: Accommodation:             The Appart’City Caen

DAY 11: Monday 10 June 2019
Breakfast in the hotel.
We now travel to Courseulles-sur-Mer.  The Allied offensive in north-western Europe began with the Normandy landings of 6th June 1944. Juno Beach was one of five assault beaches on D-Day and was assigned to the 3rd Canadian Division and 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade. By nightfall on 6th June, they had carried the Canadian forces further inland than any Allied division that day.

We will see:
  • Nan Green Beach – D-Day assault by Queen's own Rifles of Canada.
  • Juno Beach Centre 
  • Mike Red Beach – D Day assaults by Royal Winnipeg Rifles & Canadian Scottish. German positions

Lunch will be on your own.

We then move on to visit:
  • Visit Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery & Memorial to Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. Many of those buried in Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery died either on 6 June or during the early days of the advance towards Caen, when the 3rd Canadian Division engaged a German battle group formed from the 716th Division and the 21st Panzer Division. The cemetery contains 2,048 Second World War burials, the majority Canadian. An Act of Remembrance will be held here.
  • Authie – Nova Scotia Highlanders Memorial –Fighting on 7th June
  • Bretteville – Regina Rifles defence against 12th SS (Hitler Youth) Division - 8th /9th June.
  • Sword Beach

DAY 12: Tuesday 11 June 2019

Today’s theme is “Worthington force, Operation Totalise and Operation Tractable – closing the Falaise gap”.
We will journey inland visiting key and lesser known locations:
  • Falaise, William the Conqueror’s birthplace and castle
  • Trun, 4th Canadian Armoured Division HQ
  • St Lambert-dur-Dive, Major David Currie VC Memorial
  • Moissy
  • Chambois / Fel, the Polish battle and the German surrender
  • Vimoutiers, Rommel’s crash site and location of a Tiger tank
  • Hill 129
  • Hill 114, von Richtofen German memorial
  • Tournai-sur-Dive, Memorial for L'Abbe Launay and Negotiation of Surrender at Morellec Farm

Returning home in the evening.
